What more can I say. The LAFD does suck. Big time.

The LAFD drives way faster than they should in my neighborhood. SLOW THE HELL DOWN.

Have you ever tried to contact their brush clearing office. What a joke.

Me to. GO LADF!!!

I mean LAFD

LAFD should have reserve firefighters like LAPD has reserve police officers. There could be hundreds of extra firefighters on the street, but everyone is afraid of the unions and we all spend more to get less.

As a firefighter who was at this particular fire, let me explain to you what angered me the most about this incident and hopefully shed some light on the truth of the state of your LAFD! Of all the fires that I've been to, I have never heard a Battalion Chief "deny" a request for an "additional" fire company. This request was from a Fire Captain when asked by the BC, "What do you guys need"? Could this have anything to do with the budget shortfall and not wanting to send additional resources to the fire and take from other areas of the city that have already been depleted due to the current MCP??? Or maybe not wanting to spend more money on resources, such as camp crews, in order to save money? What it comes down to it seems is,... pushing the current firefighters to their limits so that the Department can save money for the city! There does not seem to be any concern for "firefighter safety" or providing the citizens with the most resources needed to get the job done right!! Money before lives!! Or in the business world, "Profit before people" Citizens of Los Angeles, this is only the beginning of your LAFD being forced by the Mayor and LAFD Administration to do "More with less"!!! Denying a Fire Company more resources to "get the job done" safely and efficiently, I never thought it would happen!!!! At least not in the LAFD. Ladies and gentlemen of Los Angeles, this is simply a sign of the times to come. As "troops in the field" are being depleted from your neighborhoods, upper level administration is doing just fine! From their office window downtown, all looks and feels great! Yet you and I, out here in the communities are taking a hard hit! If this proposed "new deployment plan" is approved by city council on Wednesday, all citizens of the Los Angeles area will most assuredly be affected! This plan is simply the classic simile, "Robbing Peter to pay Paul"! Taking from one part of the city to give to another. Yet, your tax rate stays the same. It would be one thing to say, "We are taking your Fire Engine and sending it to another area of the city, oh and we ( the city) are reducing your tax rate in return". But, what is happening is that you ( the citizens) pay the same tax rate, while we (the city, again) provide more service to another community and/or part of the city. Don't believe the "smoke and mirrors". These three statements are the "TRUTH",,,, 1. You and your community will be negatively impacted by this plan, 2. We will be forced to do "more with less", 3. You will have a Firefighters taken from your community. But, know that the men and women of the LAFD will do our best to maintain our service to your community given what we have! This is your department, your tax dollars, your fire engines, what type of service do you desire?????? Voice your concerns to your Council Today!!!!!

I want to love myself a fireman!

The LAFD sucks because they are taking away a Fire Engine that protects my neighborhood. Shame on the Mayor, the City Council and Fire Chief.

LAFD EMS sucks. LAFD has one of the worst ALS programs in the country. If the public knew how piss poor the quality of medical care provided by LAFD paramedics and EMT's were...and if they knew that the reason why Los Angeles EMS in general is so backwards, then they would be afraid to call 911. Screw you LAFD.

Can anybody tell me why a big fire truck needs to block five parking sports while firemen sit at Starbucks for more than hour staring at young girls? My tax dollars at work?

We love LAFD. Shame on you all.

LAFD sucks so bad!!! like you wouldn't even use it to vacuum dust left behind from using the dust pan! These guys can't be everywhere at once...oh wait that's what makes them human hero's. Thank Guys/Girls. You continue to do the best you can with what the City gives you #trueheros

Firemen and EMS guys are hot!!!

I'm sadden to hear there was a blog started like this, as a member of the LAFD I can understand the frustration the public feels but if you want to direct your frustration you should be contacting the City Council and Mayor who have cut our staff to the bare minimum so that we can no longer provide you with the service we could be providing. Maybe you should think about that.

Wow, why such hate for the people who put their lives on the line for us every day? As the above commenter said, if your local fire station is closing or losing resources, don't blame the LAFD, but advocate for it to the City Council and Mayor, who allocate the money that pays for it.

I'm a huge LAFD supporter and am not afraid to put my name to it.

Whoever decided that it would be a good idea to start this forum in order to bash the awesome work that the men and women of the LAFD do, SHAME ON YOU! How ungrateful can you all be? These firefighters work their asses of to keep the communities of Los Angeles safe! They do the best job that they can do considering all the crap that they are dealing with, including budget cuts and loss of apparatus. Keep up the good work LAFD and thank you for your dedication!!! We love you!

The LAFD do not suck. At least the people on the ground fighting the fires. What is the purpose of this blog? Is it to get firefighters more resources or to destroy the morale of hard working public servants?

LA county rules? Really? Have you ever watched county for a structure fire ? If saving the foundation its your only goal the you are right, they rule. It kills me how scared they are to go inside of a structure fire.

Shitty rookies they would not fire, promoted worthless people based on political correctness or Stentorian agenda (i.e Pearson, Hill, Boyd,...)
and a taxi service for the illegals.

Hire reserves/volunteers....there are still people who would do this job for free...honestly they make the best firefighters. I know thats a scary thought to union members...but its the answer...big pay checks don't make a firefighter perfom better, heart and conviction does. Think about it...no inflated egos, no cocky attitude, just humble hard-working firefighters.

Anonymous said...

To all of the LAFD haters all i can say is that you would be saying the complete oppersite if you needed their help to put out your house or to get you out of a buring building or cut you out of your crashed up car because i know for a fact that they do a job that you would never do by running in to a building thats on fire to save your ass so i think that instead of slagging them off you should be supporting them for the work that they do and how many people are still alive today because of the work of the guys and girls that look after the state. so you all should think about what they do.

Anonymous said...

It's not the firefighters who we should blame...it's thier union which promises them unrealistic benefits and inflated pay. Anybody in thier shoes would take the benefits and great pay. These public employee unions are whats bankrupting our city. It's not just LAFD its city wide!! All taxpayer money goes to pensions, payroll, and benefits for city employees. It's too much!! Why do you think it takes about a week and a crew of 4 or five guys to fix a pothole in this town?? These guys are getting paid top dollar, so why hurry up and finish the job?? The longer the job takes, the more they get paid. If it was a private sector company doing the work, it would be done in a heartbeat cause time is money for the owner. Add to that a city government that sells itself to the unions and this is what you get, corrupt city departments in bed with union leaders.

The response time scandal (Chief Cummings lying about the actual response time to make the Dept look good on paper so they can get more money in their budget) made me think about the actual quality of service this extremely highly paid "public servants" receive. I personally know MANY of them. They make a very nice SIX FIGURE salary with retirement benefits that exceed what they make now. Many of them dont have College education. The City of LA residents have to pay a hefty amount in taxes (9.5%) to be able to pay for emergency services that in other states dont cost as much as here and in actuality have better response times than ours! Probably because many of the firemen working in such stations, dont do it for the $$money$$, but for passion to the job. LAFD should do ramdom drug testing!! I personally know firemen that go to the job intoxicated and stay for 3 or 4 days in a row working for over time or "SOD". They also should look more in depht into the racism going on. They might say they dont discriminate, but as a matter of fact they do! They use code name to call African American firemen or citizens, and code names for Mexican firemen or citizens. Example, one of the names I heard they use for African Americans is "LLANTS" which in spanish is tires, another name used for African Americans is "DAN", which stands for dumb ass ni**r. The names used for Mexicans is Beanners, wetbacks, etc. If you are a Firemen that belongs to the minority and has ever been called that name, now you know what it means! Their sense of entitlement and huge egos makes doesnt make them "heroes" as many people that have no clue about what the LAFD culture is about.

Anonymous said...

Oh and FWI, the response times being low is only due to the retaliation from the LAFD firemen to put preasure on the City Counsel and Mayor for more money in their budget.

Anonymous said...

LAFD has a very backward hiring process. They hire squeaky clean kids with no experience over seasoned firefighters who have proven themselves capable of doing the job. I would have poured my heart and soul into LAFD but they passed me over.. Their loss.

First of all God bless all those who wear the badge I truley am in awe of what they put up with and sacrifice day to day. Certainly not the whole lafd sucks.....that's an ignorant statement, it would be like saying the city of los angeles sucks...well some of it sucks and some of it surely does'nt suck. So whats peoples problem when some people want to point out parts of the lafd that do suck? Maybe thier brains are too small to be able to entertain more than one point of view on a particular subject. Maybe these people live in a world of absolutes of all or nothing, your either 100% for it or your 100% against it. It's this type of thinking that is dangerous and resistant to change and forward progress. One thing is certain...there ARE parts of the lafd that do suck just like in any other organization. If you don't believe me just ask any female firefighter that works for lafd. Criticizing the lafd does'nt mean your talking shit about the firefighters that put thier lives on the line every day, and it does'nt mean your insensitive or hate firefighters. So stop saying "if only your house burned down you would'nt be saying this or that" Shut up and think things critically....there are problems in the department! Nepotism being the latest one of many to be adressed. I only hope the new generations of brave men & women who decide to dedicate thier lives to helping thier fellow man and decide to be members of the lafd will start changing things in the department. As they move up in the ranks to become captains, chiefs, inspectors, and teachers I hope they put a stop to the racist, sexist, money hungry, and frat boy mentality that plagues some (and the key word is some) of the members of this fine department. Please don't get me started on labor unions!....just look at lausd

I completely thank you guys for your efforts and what you do to keep us all safe, but I have seen multiple times you guys (near south Hoover street and intersection with adams) honk on top of sirens on 2 AM while there are no cars at the intersection. If its just in case some stupid person decides to pass the intersection, you should also consider the possibility of people having their 5 month old child waking up while shaking from the fear of honks !!! I really challenge you guys have your new born children living in the area to enjoy and thank their dads !!

im more pissed at Mayor Gaycetti. For the stop hire and restart from the beginning stages. its a long process i went through over a year long process and left a fire job thinking the second academy was going to happen. stupid me thinking LA city would pull their head out.

Audrey's independent living said...

The fire chief and mayor who hired him needs to do something about lafd and community care licensing. They are making people living in room and board housing homeless. They are putting licensing rules on non licensed homes and when the owners don't fix what they decide is a violation, they are sending owners to city attorneys office on criminal ( yes) criminal charges. These agencies don't give 2 cents about the homeless and it's sad with the covid pandemic going on. These agencies are causing more black and brown people to be put on the street. Independent living has been popping up because people can't afford expensive$2000.00 a month board and cares. We are here housing and making disabled and some elderly men and women stable some at no cost. These agencies must be investigated. LAHSA is being blamed for the processes and why there's a lot of homeless but if you see the bigger picture, it's there two agencies leading the charge. I have proof and evidence to back up my claim. I hope someone from the mayor's office will reach out. Been trying to reach someone since September 3rd to no avail. Let's seecif social media blast will get someone to listen. These are not good agencies. There's no real oversight and they close a blind eye to what their workers do. They don't care and then act like they do when called on it.
